"Ịgọ Ọfọ" means to "Pour Libation". This is the practice of pouring a small quantity of one's alcoholic beverage on the ground at the start of a gathering or party, before drinking oneself. This is to commemorate and include one's ancestors in the festivities and to show that one has respect for the dead. Though mostly unknown to Europeans, It is a very common practice in Nigeria.

The following poem could be said at the time of pouring to complete or complement the ceremony.
